May Showers in June

Evansville weather has been positively unpredictable lately. The past 3 weeks have been filled with local weather people calling for rain, but it never shows up. If it does, it’s extremely spotty and actually never reaches my house. May 2015 weather for Southern Indiana has been very odd, to say the least. We haven’t even had any real thunderstorms, to speak of.

Yesterday, the predictions were right, we actually had a thunderstorm early in the morning. Although the storms passed, we did experience a great soaking rain for the better part of the day. It was mid afternoon before the sun actually poked it’s head out and made for a beautiful end to a day, albeit a little humid. I took the opportunity to play with our family’s new Canon Rebel, with some extremely amateur photos of our flowers below.

Video of Macroburst Hitting Evansville 2014

I was at work when the macroburst hit Evansville, IN on Friday May 9th, 2014. It was the strongest wind I have ever experienced and it was compounded by the fact that there were no warnings of any kind. There were no tornado warnings, and I don’ t think there were even any severe thunderstorm warnings. So, when the wind picked up, I thought nothing of it.

Broken Water Lines In Evansville

My thoughts are with everyone fighting to keep their water lines from bursting in this intense cold.  Evansville has had a rough winter and I see it everyday on my way into work.  I can see the frozen lakes in front of peoples houses, the pools of water frozen to vehicles in the road, and I feel sorry for the stress it causes.

Stay safe, hopefully only a few more days of this arctic like temperatures.

January 2014 Evansville Snow

January 2014 snow finally showing up in Evansville, Indiana. Not nearly as much as promised, but still some snow, and plenty of below zero temperature.

The snow did not show up as soon as the Evansville weathermen promised.  Better late than never?  Also, on the north side, we might have received a half an inch of snow, if that.  But, with all the wind it blew away or drifted up into the corners of the yard.

I'm sure the meteorologists are being heckled right now pretty hard.  One thing they did nail was the frigid temperatures.  Today, Monday the 6th and tomorrow January 7th, EVSC is closed due to the sub zero temps.
