Icemen Gets Senator Affiliation

It’s official, the Evansville Icemen have secured a deal with the Ottawa Senators for the upcoming hockey season. In previous seasons the Icemen were the farm for the Blues and Predators, but starting the 2014 Season will feature talent from Ottawa.

Part of this new affiliate may be in part due to the new Icemen head coach Dwight Mullins. Dwight was the coach for the Elmira Jackals, which was a farm for the Senators as well.

hockey photoWhat’s most exciting for this Evansvillian is the prospect of the Ford Center hosting an NHL Exhibition Game. The Icemen owner had this to say; “I told them I wanted to do an exhibition game with the Senators and maybe the Blues, maybe the Predators, or the Blackhawks at the Ford Center.”

Frog Follies 2014 Pictures

Pictures from the 2014 Frog Follies. This was the 40th anniversary of the antique car show event, which is the biggest and best pre-49 car show in the United States.

Was miserably hot today, August 23rd, 2014 at the Vanderburgh County 4H Fair Grounds for the 40th Anniversary of the Frog Follies.  This event is the biggest and best pre 1949 automotive show in the United States and it's easy to see why.  There was hardly any space not covered by antique cars and all the buildings were full of vendors.  Even the fields were covered by swap events and vendors slinging any product remotely related to automotive.

The Frog Follies have become an annual event for father daughter time in the Davidson house hold.  My 6 year old was just as excited to see all of the cars as I was, even tolerating my endless scanning of booths for a good deal.

Evansville does an amazing job at hosting this event and accommodating all the extra people inside the city.  During my time, there were hardly any traffic jams, as 41 and Booneville-New Harmony road were clear and lines of cars were in constant motion.  Furthermore, inside the fair grounds there were plenty of helpers parking cars, directing traffic, and watching out for walkers to and from the event.

As usual, I plan on attending again next year.  Although, I'd like to order a little bit cooler weather please.

Halloween 2013 At Mesker Zoo

I visited Mesker Zoo in October, just not during a Boo at the Zoo Halloween event. It was more pleasant without the crowds and we still got to enjoy the frightful amenities.

I've attended Boo at the Zoo, Mesker Park Zoo's annual Halloween event, every year for the past 6 years.  However, this year it just wasn't in the cards, but that didn't stop us from visiting the animals in October.  I'd recommend everyone who lives near Evansville to enjoy Mesker Park Zoo and Botanical Gardens.  My daughter and I explored the zoo a few weeks ago,  let me tell you what we saw.

Mesker has a new featured animal, their first Komodo Dragon.  This large lizard exhibit can be found in the the upstairs of the Hippo/Rhino building, where birds used to be displayed.  This remodeled exhibit gives the lizard plenty of space to live and plenty of frontage for people to look.  The opposite side of the room has also been remodeled, giving a number of different snakes new homes.

2012 Hadi Shrine Circus Review

Review of the 79th Annual Hadi Shrine Circus in 2012 at the Ford Center in Evansville, IN.

It's tradition that my family goes to the Hadi Shrine Circus every year on Thanksgiving Day. After gorging ourselves on turkey and mashed potatoes, we find our way to Roberts Stadium, rather The Ford Center for the past 2 years. Last year, being the first year in the new Center, the Circus showed it's age and barely capable of holding me and my daughters attention. So what's new with the 2012 79th Annual Hadi Shrine Circus?

The first thing I noticed this year was that the acts were completely out of order. Some of the larger and more grand performances were actually pushed toward the first half of the show. This helped immensely as there was less filler and the excitement level was held high.

SMC of Evansville August Meet Up

It's been a few months since I've been able to attend the Social Media Club of Evansville's meeting.  But I must say, it's worth the time, especially business owners who are looking to create a local online presence.  Monday, August 15th from 6 - 8 PM at Ri Ra Irish Pub, will be the next meeting.  I've yet to RSVP, but I shall try to attend.

As a note, everyone is just as friendly, outgoing, and welcoming as their online persona.  Furthermore, presentations are professionally orchestrated and geared toward teaching and open discussion.  Even if you struggle finding Facebook.com, you'll feel at home learning about how important social media has become to your business and personal reputation.

According to the SMC newsletter, Mondays meeting will focus on YouTube and Real Simple Video and what it means to your marketing efforts.  I know how my ventures into video production have turned out, so I'm considering a double dose of Rocky Walls, who will also be presenting at U of E earlier in the day.  If you don't know who Rocky Walls is, he's the go to guy at Star Media Productions, a business that focuses on online content creation and social media marketing.

For all the gritty details sign up at the official Social Media Club of Evansville Website.  The meeting at Ri Ra Irish Pub is free, but the presentation by Rocky Walls at U of E will cost a $20 registration fee.
