I know I'm not alone with my frustration of fuel costs, electricity costs, and natural gas costs. However, I can almost understand it in todays economy, but Vectren a local monopoly, should be doing it's part to help with conservation, especially when it effects the bottom line. Too bad they don't monitor the Vectren service guys fuel consumption or downtime.
My regular 9-5 job is positioned directly across from a Vectren substation and I have a big window to watch what goes on outside. At minimum 3-4 times a week there is a Vectren service truck setting inside the fenced in area, just setting, not doing any work. Today was no exception, because there has been a man in a Vectren service vehicle setting there idling for over 4 hours. Did you hear me, idling, not turned, off, running in the A/C while the man inside reads a book.
It's an outrage that Vectren allows this type of behavior to go on and it happens all the time. Granted it doesn't last 4 hours generally, but for more than an hour is the norm. How much could they save as a company if they would force their service guys to either shut their trucks down while they are goofing off on company time or a better idea, just do some work.
I will be calling Vectren this evening to voice my complaints. I apologize if this post is a little thrown together, I'm typing this while I'm so angry my eyes are bleeding.

Let it be known that I just started golfing the end of last year. Before I had been intimidated by the game, for fear of knocking someone out from one of my stray balls. However, thanks to a friend, I've rarely missed a week of golf this season and my game is actually starting to improve. I figured I'd take this opportunity to share with Evansville residents where the best courses are, to learn to golf, because everyone has to start somewhere.
The first place I golfed in Evansville was Wesselman's Par 3 course. It's wide open, except for a few light poles, and it's laid back enough so you won't feel the pressure of the pros around you. Families bring their kids, Foursomes kick back, it's really a great experience and somewhat of a challenging course for beginners. Two people can generally play through 18 holes in under 2 hours, if they keep their strokes to under 10.
Wesselman's Par 3 18-Holes: $6.00
The next place I golfed was out at Howell Park, I bet you didn't even know they had a Par 3 course over there. Howell Park features a 9-hole Par 3 course, with plenty of trees to help block the stray ball from colliding with other golfers heads. Also, it's another laid back area, where beginner golfers can feel at home, where the average hole is only 80 yards.
USI utilizes this course for it's golf classes, so occasionally you will see some big groups. Also, keep in mind that unlike Wesselman's, Howell Par-3 closes at 6:30. Hell, there is plenty of daylight left this time of year, it's kind of a shame.
Howell Park Par-3 9-Holes: $3.00
Both golf courses offer equipment rental, like pull carts and even golf clubs. So, even if you don't own a set you don't have an excuse not to go out and hit a round. remember, everyone has to start somewhere and every golfer I met was fully understanding, after they almost took my golf ball to their face.

I woke up this morning to the sound of thunder and the flash of lightning. It seems like every other day is a storm here and not just a happy go lucky storm, but one that drops 5-10" of rain at a time. Most of the storms last week went north of us, so I truly feel sorry for those who are experiencing the flooding right now.
However, my house is located on the South East side, so I'm not immune to flooding either. Whenever these storms start rolling in I get anxiety for fear this this will be another gusher that brings in the wet stuff, flooding my living room. Hopefully the storms today will pass north again or at least be mild with the rain they bring. According to Weather.com we only have a 50% chance of rain tonight(fingers crossed).
Doesn't seem to anyone else like we haven't had just a rain in 08? Instead of receiving the occasional shower, all we get are severe thunder storms, nothing in between. Oh well, soon enough we will be into a drought, just like last summer, until fall hits.

Finally, after a horrendous losing streak it looks like the Evansville Otters are back on their way to playing like the team I saw in the first few weeks of the season. Getting some stolen bases, home runs, and just playing all around like a better team. So much better than the embarrassment I saw at the last Thirsty Thursday.
I love the Otters, the field, the game, everything, but the last Thirsty Thursday the team was playing like a bunch of little leaguers. A return to form is refreshing and has me looking forward to the next game I get to catch. Any professional team would be proud of coming back into a 5 game winning streak. So if it's either sweep or be swept, I'll take the sweep anyday.
Writing about the Evansville Otters gives me an opportunity to post a picture of my daughter meeting Evan. Consider it a freebie, next cute picture I post though is gonna cost ya.
Tis the season, the time of year when road construction crews come out in droves to tear up our roads. I can almost deal with it, if it were done in an organized fashion, but this year so far has been ridiculous. One lane is closed on both the East and West bound sides making it a virtual standstill at places like the intersection of 41 and the intersection at Green River road.
What angers me the most is that none of the barrels are even. The crews have the lane blocked off at different intervals, where sometimes the barrels hang out into one of the two open lanes. Expect slower traffic and an increase in the possibility of an accident, without warning. How does this sound like a good idea? Also, who was the guy who decided to only notify of closing of the left lane, on the East bound side, right before Highway 41? That intersection is a death trap the way it is and it's only worse in the summer construction heat.
What say ye?
